3 Tips For Traveling With A Valuable Ultraportable Laptop

When traveling with an ultraportable laptop, it's essential to keep it safe from potential thieves and ensure that it remains protected from the weather. After all, these laptops can cost over $1000 each! If you plan to travel with your laptop, whether for just a day or for weeks or months at a time, here are some tips to help keep your equipment safe.

1) Use A Pacsafe Bag

If you’ll be carrying your laptop through busy streets then you’ll want to protect your bag from thieves. One of the best ways to do this is with a Pacsafe Bag. These bags are specifically designed to keep your valuables secure while you carry them in the street. Two kinds of bag are offered: a shoulder bag and a rucksack. Both offer the same kind of protection: hidden zips which are combination lockable, and protective metal meshing integrated into the fabric of the bag. This meshing prevents your bag from being cut open – one of the most common methods that thieves use to get into your bag.

2) Secure It In A Pacsafe Cable Mesh Lock

If you don’t want to take your ultraportable laptop out, but would rather leave it in your room whilst on a business trip or holiday, it's important to keep the device as secure as possible. Whilst it is unlikely to happen, every year many people who leave valuables in a hotel or guest house room return to find them gone. To prevent this from happening it is possible to leave valuables in a safe, but often no suitable safe is available. If this is the case, the Pacsafe cable mesh lock is a good solution.

The expandable wire mesh wraps around your bag, surrounding it in a knife-proof layer. The attached cable can then be looped through a nearby stationary object, such as a bed, and fixed in place using a secure padlock (either the one provided with the Pacsafe device, or one you already own). This will stop all but the most determined of thieves from either breaking through the wire mesh or removing your bag with its mesh covering from the room.

3) Pack It In A Waterproof Bag

Waterproof roll-top bags are an excellent way to keep your electrical valuables safe from rain. Simply stow them inside the waterproof bag before putting them inside your rucksack. Additionally, it is possible to stow your entire rucksack, with contents, inside the waterproof roll-top bag. This is a good idea if you need to carry your valuables over water in small boats, are keeping them by you at the beach, or are simply outside in the rain. As the waterproof bag should be airtight if closed properly, your valuables will be kept afloat should your bag fall out of a boat and into the water.
